Welcome to the Barrington Soccer Club for the Fall 2010 season. I wanted to thank everyone for their participation in tryouts.
I would ask everyone to PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE in its entirety. At the July 25 board meeting, we made several decisions that impact the parents and the teams, and I wanted to explain them to you. In addition, there is information we still need from many families to register your child with the league.
The schedule for the season is:
July 31 The BSC must register all teams
Aug 15 Changes to team rosters finalized
Aug 22 Fall Soccer Kick Off for all BSC players and parents
Aug 23 Twice-a-week practices begin
Sept 11 GSYSL games begin
The season will end in late October. We are not planning to enter any tournaments this year, but will look at the possibility for next year. Tournaments normally take place on Columbus Day Weekend, so there will be no games that weekend.
This year, the Granite State Youth Soccer League (GSYSL) has instituted fines for teams that cancel games, unless the cancellation is due to a field issue or weather.
The fines range from $50 if you cancel a game within two weeks and reschedule to $500 if you cancel a game on the day of the game. The most likely scenario for this last fine is that a team fails to show up with the minimum number of players (five players for 6v6 play in the U9 and U10 group and six players for 8v8 play at the U12 level).
We intend the Barrington Soccer Club to be affordable. As such, we have kept fees to a minimum. Our $125 season fee, for example, is far lower than Rochester's $180 season fee plus $70 uniform fee. However, that also means that we have no way to pay fines that are levied against teams in the event of a forfeit because too few players have shown up.
To avoid the fines, the board has decided to set team minimums and require a deposit of all families. A deposit of $50 will be required per family (not per player) and will be returned at the end of the season. If a team forfeits a game, or is fined for other reasons, then the money will be taken out of that team's deposits. Any remaining funds will be returned to parents at the end of the season.
We will be sending out an invoice for any remaining fees due to the Club on August 1. The deposit will be included on that invoice and all payments will be due by August 13.
We failed to find enough 8- and 9-year-old girls to fill out the U10 team, so we have decided to take the existing pool of 7- to 9-year-old kids and form three coed teams -- two at the U9 level and a single U10 team. This gives us three teams of nine players each, our current minimum for that level. So, we have reopened registration until August 13. If you know any prospective players, please let them know about us.
I will resend the welcome letters next week, after the initial teams are registered.
4. Registration information needed
To complete team registration on July 31, we need the following information for every player:
- The registration form completed for each player, if you have not already provided,
- A copy of the player's birth certificate,
- Contact information for both parents, including names, e-mail addresses and phone numbers,
- Any medical problems affecting the player, and
- An emergency contact.
Please send us this information in e-mail or via fax at (603) 686-5044. If you do not have access to fax or e-mail, then mail it to the Barrington Soccer Club, P.O. Box 122, Barrington NH.
The deadline for this information is Friday, July 30, so if you are mailing the information please do so by Thursday.
Our initial season for the Barrington Soccer Club has been somewhat chaotic, and I apologize for that. But with your help, we can finish the registration process quickly and look forward to the fall.
