The second day of tryouts was a success. We still have some work to do to fill out our two older teams, so parents of 10- and 11-year-old players, please read through this letter.
Here are our final results:
- U9 (7 and 8 year olds): 16 players total, we will be cutting to the max team size of 14
- U10 (9 year olds): 15 players total, we will be cutting to the max team size of 14
- U11 (10 year olds): 8 players total, we need at least 3 more
- U12 (11 year olds): 5 players total*, we need at least 6 more
In total, we had 44 players tryout, much better than the 37 qualified players who tried out last year. (We had a lot of 6- and 12-year-olds players tryout last year, but we didn't have teams for them.)
We need to find players for both the U11 and the U12 teams. At our board meeting on Thursday, the BSC board unanimously voted to strictly adhere to the age groups to improve the competitiveness of our teams. Our policy for this and future seasons will be no movement between teams. So the U11 team needs kids who will be 10 years old on July 31, 2011 and the U12 team needs kids who will be 11 years old on July 31, 2011.
Following tryouts, we have found two more 11-year-old players for the U12 team, so we are up to 7 players total -- we need 4 more to form a team.
Over the weekend, we will create a flyer for parents to hand out to the parents of potential players. Please print it out and give it to prospects.
Finally, we are considering moving to the New Hampshire Seacoast Youth Soccer League, which would make our teams more competitive and result in closer away games on average. If anyone has thoughts on this, feel free to contact the board.
